The Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) has facilities for in-person assistance on the islands of São Miguel, Santa Maria, Terceira, Horta, and Pico (temporarily closed).

If you would like to contact SEF, you may do so in person or over the phone, but you should preferably do so by email.

Please contact SEF if you have any queries about regulations governing foreign nationals entering, departing, and residing in Portuguese territory, to check the status of your application, or to obtain information about the scheduling of appointments.

As part of the current restructuring process, the jurisdiction of the SEF (Immigration and Borders Service) will pass to the Portuguese Migrations and Asylum Agency, the Public Security Police (PSP), the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Judicial Police (PJ), to be contacted depending on the circumstances.
