Throughout their history, the Azores have assumed an extremely important role in the migration route of the Atlantic.
Our archipelago has always been a safe port for thousands of people, of different nationalities and origins, that have passed or settled here, making our islands their home
This fact shaped our people, endowing it with recognizable hospitality and a great capacity for tolerance towards others.
Being a human phenomenon and concept that comprises more and more the engagement of various transnational actors and processes, migration deserves the proper attention by all society and mainly, by political decision-makers.
The Government of the Azores has invested, admittedly, in the implementation of instruments and tools, using the current digital potential, that provide an effective, fast and accessible support to all migrants.
It is with this sense of responsibility that the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities, created the “Migrant’s Guide”, a platform that provides relevant information to promote the full integration of these citizens.
The “Migrant’s Guide” gathers the action of public entities and associations of the Autonomous Region of the Azores that play a role in the migrations field, and is also directed to those who are involved in this theme, through the provision and conjunction of better answers to meet the challenges they face.
With this platform, the Government of the Azores gives another important and necessary step in the area of migrations, so that the archipelago and its services continue to be promoters of a social integration of excellence.
